Young adult female in power wheelchair looking at her mother

Hi.

Welcome to The Dean Show! I document our adventures in parenting  focusing on the accommodations required by our disabled daughter, Katherine.

3 Reasons I bought my daughter a crazy expensive Bidet!

So... Katherine doesn't usually tell me that she needs to use the potty when she goes # 1, but she does tell me when its time for #2. And, just because she doesn't tell me - in fact because she doesn't tell me- the easier it is to take her to the toilet, the more often we're likely to go. We have days when she can stay dry all day, which is so much better for her hygiene of course. Also, she is a teenage girl so we do have an extra fun week each month when getting to the potty more often is very helpful.

Katherine can't really use her left hand at all, and her fine motor skills in her right hand aren't perfect. So as much as her caregivers and I don't want to have to wipe her bottom; I can't really leave that up to her.

When we started designing her suite, one of our first stops was a plumbing store. We looked at a couple of places, but at Kenny and Company. we got the one on one service and attention to detail that we needed. They recommended the Toto Washlet series. There are lots of varieties of this particular bidet. We happened to choose the Toto Neorest

I have to tell you that this kind of toilet is an investment. Here's why I think it's worth it:

1. Everything is automated - it opens upon approach, it cleans and dries front and back, and flushes itself. These things may seem unnecessary, and maybe they are for your particular needs, but my daughter cannot do any of those things herself.

2. Everything is automated - no really, I don't have to ask a babysitter who just met my daughter a few hours ago to help her wipe her bum, or deal with the alternative - just let her go in her diaper and change her at bedtime. This toilet gives her dignity.

3. We had a traditional Toto toilet at our old house. It clogged every time Katherine went #2. We haven't had that problem with this toilet.

Here's the remote used to control all those special features. Also, did I mention that the seat is heated?

Before you stop reading because I'm being a snob... Please let me tell you one more thing?

It is possible to buy a Toto Bidet seat that fits on a regular toilet (in fact we might've done that in the master bath) for less than $1000!
